Rapid Response:

Whooping cough and vulnerable adults

Twelve years ago I developed whooping cough. As the illness
started after a week notable for the number of coughing and
sputtering children brought to the surgery, I have since supposed
that at least some of the coughs we see every winter are likely to
be due to pertussis, the clinical picture being attenuated by
immunisation. I am interested to find this hypothesis given support
in this paper. i wonder how many of the children in the study with
whooping cough passed it on to vulnerable adults.
