Rapid Response:

Effect of conflict in Palestine

Dear Sir
I am surprised to read the overwhelming number of criticisms of this
article. It is obvious to anybody who keeps abreast with current affairs
that the Palestinian people are suffering due to this illegal occupation.
Not only are they suffering due to lack of health facilities and delay in
getting medical attention (I have heard on several occasions people being
stopped at checkpoints for several hours, even pregnant women in labour)
they are also suffering in all other aspects of society such as education
and housing. The long-term psychological effect on the Palestinian people
is immeasurable. It seems that there is a lack of humanity and an
abundance of suffering. The sooner we recognise that this is occuring on
both sides and not just on the Israeli side and the sooner we recognise
that Palestinians are not terrorists but a people under occupation with
the right to freedom the sooner a resolution to this occupation can be
achieved.
