THANK YOU FOR HIGHLIGHTING A PREVENTABLE CAUSE OF CHILD MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY
I would like to congratulate the BMJ for publishing an article
highlighting obvious preventable causes of child mortality and morbidity.
Dr. Summerfield should be appreciated for his informative and excellent
article and his followings 2 rapid responses. The number of responses
amazed me and I would like to point out some important rapid responses
(some from Jews) to Summerfield article. I hope that those colleagues, who
are trying to justify the genocide of Palestinians, will realise that this
article is neither pro Palestinian nor anti Israeli. It simply states real
facts:
1- Sylvia Shihadeh, human Rights Activists said:
the reality - which some find hard to believe - is even worse than what
Derek Summerfield reports. I was in Israel/Palestine January 2004 and I
saw and witnessed horrific treatment of Palestinian
2- Alice Rothchid from Boston,said: I want to congratulate Dr.
Summerfield for his brave and candid description of the assault on
Palestinian health and human rights. She wonders rightly (whether the
humiliation and destruction of an entire population will lead to greater
coexistence and mutual forgiveness or whether it will only push the angry
and desperate into the hands of the extremists in each society
3- David Blanc from Israel said: Derek Summerfield's piece on
Palestine gives a substantially correct picture of the catastrophic
medical situation in the West Bank and Gaza these days, and is also right
in identifying the responsibility of the occupying power (the Israeli
government) for this situation, inextricably tied to the equally
disasterous economic plight of most of the Palestinians under occupation
4- Marcia Bernstein, from New York said: AS a Jewish American, i support
the article written by Derek Summerfield. Friends who have visited the
Palestinian areas have reported that conditions there are exactly as Mr.
Summerfield has described. The actions of the Israeli army in the occupied
territories are against all international law and violate all Jewish law
And many other notes like the response from Peter Kandela, Miriam R
Woodward----etc
It is time to recognise the problem and try to help the Palestinians
survive through and protect their women and children. Israel will not be
secure by more killing and destroying the other side, actually, they will
create more enemies
