Journal policies on competing interests

In conjunction with an editorial on competing interests, we conducted two online questionnaires regarding the possibility of extending our policies further.

The final results, with 141 people responding, were:

1. Should the BMJ require authors and reviewers to declare
non-financial as well as financial competing interests?
Yes 88%
No 11%


2. Should the BMJ ask authors and reviewers to declare
the sums of money involved in financial competing interests?
Yes 69%
No 30%
