The coming of β blockers

In a paper published in the BMJ, Brian Prichard described the effectiveness of propranolol in the treatment of hypertension. Propranolol was the first β blocker, and it became the first line treatment for hypertension, and saved thousands of lives before being replaced by more modern drugs.

Brian Prichard's seminal paper on treatment of hypertension with propranolol was published in the BMJ in 1964.
