Anne Cecilia Metten
Former general practitioner Eastwood (b Lavender Hill, London 1932; q
Sheffield 1956; DCH), died from pancreatic carcinoma on 26 July 2005.
After Anne qualified she spent 10 years working in the hospital world.
Her main interest wasin paediatrics and she worked at Great Ormond
Street, Edinburgh, Inverness, and Derby Children’s Hospital.
In 1966 she decided to do general practice and joined Dr Michael Jewitt
as a partner in Eastwood. She eventually became senior partner until she
retired in 1994.
Anne was a good and caring practitioner but found recent changes and attitudes
in general practice difficult—so many did. Her faith in the medical and nursing
profession wasrestored by her carefrom the oncology department
and the nursing team who looked after her at home, where she died.
Anne had many lifelong friends and colleagues. She was a very active member
ofthe Franciscan Catholic church.
Besides medicine, her main interests were in gardening, painting, photography,
and music. Her greatest love wasin travelling—walking and trekking,
in Northern India, Kashmir, Nepal, and Italy.
She leaves a sister, Jean. [Lesley Baker]
