John Cedric Jones
Former general practitioner Newport, Isle of Wight (b Wellingborough 1915;
q St Thomas’ Hospital, London, 1940), died 10 May 2005.
Cedric Jones was a Kitchener scholar and joined the Royal Navy for the
duration of the second world war. He saw service on destroyers and fleet
minesweepers from the Atlantic to the Far East, including a period on the
Arctic convoys. He married Molly, a casualty sister from Mansfield General
Hospital, in September 1941. In 1946 he went into practice with his father,
Dr J H Jones, at Holyrood House, Newport, Isle of Wight. They worked together
experiencing the introduction of the NHS until his father retired in 1951.
There was a Dr Jones at Holyrood House, Newport, for 49 Years. He retired
from general practice in 1980 and until he was 72 years old he undertook
a number of medical assignments, including a short spell as hospice doctor.
His most fulfilling work was with home births and supporting his patients
in his large rural practice. Predeceased by his wife, he leaves three children
