William Kenneth Jones
Former consultant anaesthetist Manchester Royal Infirmary and Christie
Hospital (b Neath 1920; q St Bartholomew’s 1943; MRCS, FFA RCS), died peacefully
at home on 15 November 2004.
Ken developed his interest in anaesthetics during national service and
joined the staff at Manchester Royal Infirmary for his training posts. His
initial consultant post was in Cardiff, but within a few years he was invited
back to Manchester, where he enjoyed a varied career. He was especially proud
of his links with the Christie. He was a well respected colleague who will
be much missed for his kindness, sense of fun, and teaching. He was a keen
supporter of Manchester United and enjoyed his garden and golf during retirement.
He endured bravely the loss of his eldest son at the age of 21 years,
but struggled with his wife’s ailing health in the last three years. She
predeceased him by just six months.
He leaves his twin son and daughter and five grandchildren. [Hugh
