- Thomas Joseph Delaney
Consultant dermatologist Gloucestershire hospitals 1975-2000 (b Liverpool 1940; q Liverpool 1964; FRCP), died unexpectedly from a stroke, while he and his wife were in Vietnam with the Dowling Travelling Club, on 22 February 2003.
Joe was registrar at Liverpool before becoming a senior registrar in London at St George’s Hospital and St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin. As a consultant, he introduced several new techniques and established new clinics at three GP hospitals, as well as running busy outpatients in Cheltenham and Gloucester hospitals, with inpatients latterly at Standish. He also attended a weekly combined clinic at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He was always ready to take part in clinical teaching and was joint honorary secretary of the Gloucestershire branch of the BMA for five years. After retirement he did his own locum and then locums at Exeter. Very conscientious, he gave an excellent opinion and was much in demand throughout the whole county. His quiet, modest manner endeared him to colleagues and patients alike, all of whom were very sad that he did not have a lengthy retirement. He leaves a wife, Gill, also a doctor; two sons; and two daughters. [T Peter Ormerod]
