Doctors across the NHS are being exploited by a system that is relying on their goodwill and “toleration of the unacceptable” to keep it functioning, the UK’s most senior GP has said.

Richard Vautrey, chair of the BMA’s General Practitioners Committee, urged ministers to end a decade of “excuses” and commit themselves to an urgent increase in funding for general practice.
