GP avoids prosecution over circumcision of 3 month old baby

A GP who was arrested in June after circumcising a 3 month old boy for religious reasons without his mother’s permission will not be charged, the Crown Prosecution Service has decided.

Balvinder Mehat, 61, of Bakersfield Medical Centre in Nottingham, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Two other people, unnamed relatives of the child from the father’s side of the family, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
