One in six people newly diagnosed with HIV in Europe is now aged over 50

There has been a steady rise in the number of new cases of HIV diagnosed in older age groups in Europe over the past 12 years, a study published in the Lancet HIV has shown, with around one in six (17%) in 2015 diagnosed in people aged over 50.1
People aged 50 or older were more likely than younger people (aged 15 to 49 years) to have acquired HIV through heterosexual sexual contact and to be diagnosed with advanced disease, the results showed.
