Rapid responses are electronic letters to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on thebmj.com. Although a selection of rapid responses will be included online and in print as readers' letters, their first appearance online means that they are published articles. If you need the url (web address) of an individual response, perhaps for citation purposes, simply click on the response headline and copy the url from the browser window. Letters are indexed in PubMed.
With regard to implementation of the new junior doctor contract, Paul Wallace, director of employment relations and reward at NHS Employers is quoted as saying “And so far I think it’s going well”. It was only last week the BMJ highlighted that some Trusts have "threatened with referral to the General Medical Council for refusing to take on locum work.". Hence, one wonders whether all is well as indicated by Paul Wallace. Further, it would be interesting to see what effective action BMA would take to defend its junior doctor members should Trusts continue to be "too heavy handed in enforcing the new junior doctor contract". Unfortunately, BMA's track record in relation to resolving contract disputes of junior doctors is hardly worth talking about.
