The General Medical Council has won a High Court appeal against a finding by a medical practitioners tribunal that a doctor’s fitness to practise was not impaired despite his dishonesty.
The GMC exercised new powers it won in 2015 to appeal against tribunal decisions,1 after the tribunal let Iheanyi Nwachuku off with a warning.
Nwachuku was in his final year of GP training at Southampton in October 2015 when he agreed with an agency to provide senior house office cover for three weekend nights, including a Sunday night from 8 pm till 8 am, at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore, north west London.
