Six doctors who were struck off the UK medical register for disciplinary reasons have been allowed back in practice in the first four months of 2017. The figures suggest that reinstatement, while still rare, is on the rise: just five doctors were reinstated in the previous two years.
Robert Scott Taylor, a junior doctor who was struck off in 2011, this month became the third doctor to win restoration to the register within a month.
The decisions by the medical practitioner tribunals were of note because all three cases involved doctors who were originally found to have acted dishonestly. In Taylor’s case, this had led to a crown court conviction for fraud. …
