Re: Patients needing urgent GP care could be seen at neighbouring practices under CCG plans

Dear Dr Turner

You suggest that cataract operations could be excluded from NHS treatment. Do please remember that catarct removal will restore mobility, reduce dependancy, reduce costs to social services.

Why not redeploy to actual hands-on patient treatment, those NHS staff, medically qualified, nursing qualified, who sit in front of computers at present ?

You are a retired director of public health. You will be aware, no doubt, that in days gone by the public health staff actually did meet patients and their relatives and friends.

I do not need a cataract operation today. But I am getting on in years and I might need a cataract operation one day.

Sincerely
Dr JK Anand
