Local areas of England should be given the power to raise additional funds for health and social care through taxation, says a report from the accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).1
The report, which surveyed more than 1000 NHS staff, found too much confusion between the roles of national and local health and care bodies and an unhelpful division between health and social care.
It suggested that the existing precept allowing local councils to raise additional funds for social care through taxation could eventually be extended to healthcare as part of a major devolution of power …
