William Rimmer Lee (“Tim”) was born in Dulwich, London. He attended Alleyn’s School and subsequently entered Guy’s Hospital Medical School on an open science scholarship, graduating in 1945. Through these war years, his extracurricular activities included firewatching at St Paul’s Cathedral. After the war he did his deferred national service in the Royal Air Force on a short service commission with tours to Egypt, and it was here that his passion for industrial medicine was born.
