Ronald David Gregg Tunbridge (known as David) was a hypertension specialist who contributed to medical education; he had a passion for canals, photography, and croquet. He was the second son of Dorothy (Gregg) and Sir Ronald Tunbridge, professor of medicine in Leeds and president of the BMA. His brother, Michael, qualified as a doctor, but David at first started a geology degree at Durham University. However, he soon enrolled on the 1st MB course at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London.
