Scotland prioritises action on child poverty

Scottish ministers are stepping up their efforts to eradicate child poverty after criticising the UK government for failing to prioritise the needs of low income families.

Legislation is set to be introduced in Scotland that will require ministers to deliver on targets to reduce child poverty. If the proposed targets were met by 2030 the proportion of children living in absolute poverty would fall from 21% at present to 5%.
