James Riddick Heron (“Jim”) was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and moved to Birmingham as a child. He attended King Edward’s School and studied medicine at Birmingham University Medical School. Thereafter, he trained in neurology at the Royal Free Hospital in London, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London’s Queen Square, and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
