Killed surgeon at Berlin hospital had treated patient who shot him

An oral surgeon at the Charité university hospital in Berlin, Germany, has died from gunshot wounds after an elderly patient in an examination room opened fire with a handgun. After shooting the doctor several times the patient then shot himself.
The surgeon, a chief doctor and tumour specialist, had previously performed surgery on and provided postoperative care for the patient, a 72 year old man who had been seriously ill for several years. Under Germany’s strict privacy laws the doctor was identified in the German press only as Thomas P, age 55, married, and the father of two children under 18.
