Welfare changes could put an extra 1.5 million children into poverty

More than five million children could be growing up in poverty by 2020 as a result of the government’s proposed changes to the benefits system, a committee of MPs has said.

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Health in All Policies made the prediction as it published the findings of its inquiry into the effect on child poverty and child health of the Welfare Reform and Work Bill, being debated in parliament.1
