MPs pass innovative medicines bill

A private member’s bill that would encourage UK doctors to try innovative treatments and consider the off-label use of drugs has passed its Commons stages with government support, and will go to the House of Lords.

The central plank of the Access to Medical Treatments (Innovation) Bill is a database that would let doctors search for drugs that are in clinical trials (for which their patients might be eligible) and drugs licensed to treat one condition that could be used for another.
