John Stuart Fraser was born the son of a farmer near Forres in Inverness-shire. He was educated at Dyke Primary School and Forres Grammar. At the age 17 he was accepted to study medicine at Aberdeen University.
He graduated in 1953 and did his national service in the Royal Air Force. He was posted to RAF Newton, Nottinghamshire, where he did sessions helping the local GP in East Bridgford, Geoffrey Brookes. In 1957, after two years as a GP in …
