Charles Edmunds Darby Taylor (widely known as Eddie) was educated at Malvern College, Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and Middlesex Hospital Medical School. He qualified in 1946 and gained experience in a variety of posts. He met his future wife, Eileen, while serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps in the British Military Hospital, Berlin.
