Woman who was granted right to refuse kidney dialysis dies

A 50 year old woman who was judged to have the mental capacity to decide her own treatment and to be entitled to refuse the kidney dialysis keeping her alive has died.

In a judgment delivered two weeks ago but published only this week the High Court ruled that the woman, referred to as “C,” was entitled to make her own decision, even though that decision would “alarm and possibly horrify many.” The Court of Protection in London heard that “C” had been married four times and had a number of affairs, spending freely and moving on when the money …
