Complaints about adult social care rose by 18% last year

Complaints about adult social care increased by 18% in 2014/15 from the previous year, a report from the local government ombudsman has shown.1

The ombudsman received 2803 complaints about adult social care in 2014/15. Of these, 55% were upheld, 4% more than in the previous year. The areas people complained about most were assessment and care planning, residential care, home care, and charging and safeguarding. The report said that poor communication by providers was a frequent cause for complaint, regardless of the care setting.
