Initiative is launched to map state level disease burden in India

A collaborative initiative has been launched to estimate the burden of disease and risk factors in individual states of India to help improve planning and health programmes.

Collecting local data is crucial in a country as heterogeneous as India, as national level data do not have sufficient details of local population health to guide targeted approaches and policy. The state level estimations will provide valuable evidence based information on the burden, the target group at risk, changing trends, and the timing and intervention needed to improve health outcomes.
