After house jobs in Manchester, Brian Anthony Wolfenden decided to be a GP. During an obstetric job, he met his future wife, Yvonne, a midwife.
On completing his training he remained in Manchester, before moving to Preston in 1952 to join a small practice. Over time his popularity and list size grew, necessitating substantial partnership expansion (now known as St Mary’s Medical Group). Brian was much loved by patients and colleagues alike.
He was a talented sportsman, playing rugby for both Manchester University and Sale Rugby Football Club, and he also represented Lancashire on occasion.
After several heart attacks and successful coronary artery bypass surgery in 1991, he retired close to his children in Buckinghamshire. Predeceased by his wife in 2009, he leaves three children, nine grandchildren (two of whom are GPs), and 12 great grandchildren.
