Hazel Patricia Galvin

Hazel Patricia Galvin (née Compton) was the youngest of three children born to Ivy and Reg Compton in the village of Cubbington near Leamington Spa, joining Margaret (the eldest) and Neville. She attended Lillington Church of England primary school and went on to Leamington College for Girls, where she became deputy head girl. She started at Leeds University School of Medicine in 1961. It was not long before Michael took courage and asked her out on a date and took her to their first medics ball. Michael and Hazel married in 1968, after completing their first resident junior doctor posts in Leeds. Ruth arrived nine months later, and the family had their first camping holiday in a small ridge tent in Scotland when Ruth was just 3 months old.

Over the following years, Rachel, Christopher, and Rebecca duly arrived. Hazel continued working, after maternity leave, in her chosen specialty of paediatrics

Hazel was a good tennis player, having been taught by her father. Over all the years of their long marriage, she never lost patience in teaching Michael to play tennis and managed to get him to a level whereby he was able to give her a game. Hazel loved the outdoors and, with Michael and the …
