Two doctors sentenced in Canary Islands for failing to treat woman with hyponatraemia

Two doctors in the Canary Islands have been convicted of grievous bodily harm and sentenced to jail for their role in the mismanagement of a woman with severe hyponatraemia who ended up in a vegetative state.

Both doctors have been disqualified from practising for three years, sentenced to two years and three months of imprisonment, and fined €807 700 (£568 000; $885 000) for hospital costs and for serious disability and permanent injuries caused to the woman. They have also been ordered to pay €100 000 to the patient’s mother for moral damages to the family.
