General practice training should prepare doctors to work as locums, the head of the National Association of Sessional GPs (NASGP) has said.
Speaking to BMJ Careers, Richard Fieldhouse said that, although many GPs chose to become locums, at no point did their training focus on how to do the job. “GPs in training do not get any training at all on how to work as a locum,” he warned.
