High Court rejects claim that a GP trainee’s sentence was too lenient

A GP trainee who lied to her trainer should have been given a formal warning about her conduct by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, a High Court judge has ruled.

But Mrs Justice Lang rejected arguments by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care that the tribunal service was unduly lenient in deciding that Parvan Kaur Uppal’s fitness to practice was not impaired.

The authority argued that the panel should have made a finding of impairment, which would have opened the way to possible sanctions ranging from placing conditions on her registration to erasing her from the register.
