Colleagues, friends, and family wholeheartedly agree that Malcolm Boyd was a man of great integrity—a conscientious, dedicated, and loyal servant to the NHS and particularly to the patients of Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, where his medical expertise and years of hard work were celebrated at his retirement from the trust in 2012.

Malcolm was born in 1947 in Lincoln, the second son of Robert and Gladys Boyd, but his family moved to Surrey when he was a young boy, and he was educated at Tiffin Grammar School in Kingston. From an early age he was fascinated by all things scientific, and although he was not from a medical family, he told his father at the age of 8 that he intended to become a doctor. With the quiet determination that he showed throughout his career, he gained a place St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, and qualified in 1969.
