Judge suggests steps to prevent employers unfairly referring whistleblowers to GMC

The General Medical Council has welcomed a package of recommendations from a senior retired judge aimed at preventing employers using the regulator as a tool to get back at whistleblowing doctors.1

Anthony Hooper, a former Court of Appeal judge, has recommended that employers be asked, when referring a doctor to the GMC for investigation, whether the doctor has raised any concerns about the safety of patients or “the integrity of the system.”
