Pharmacists have warned that government plans requiring them to check the benefits status of patients who collect free medicines without their exemption certificate could “distort” their relationship with patients.
Around 90% of prescription items in England are dispensed free of charge, but pharmacists largely rely on people’s honesty when dispensing medicines for free. When collecting prescription items from pharmacies in England patients are asked to present their exemption certificate and sign the back of the prescription form to say why they are exempt of any charge. …
