Half of poor people in UK are in a working family, report says

Half of all people in poverty in the United Kingdom are in a family with someone in paid work, says the annual report written by the New Policy Institute for the social policy research charity the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.1

The report says that the UK labour market has changed significantly in the past 10 years, with a big increase in insecure work such as jobs on zero hours contracts, part time work, and low paid self employment. Getting a job does not necessarily mean getting out of poverty, the report says.
