President Barack Obama said on 5 November that he was open to hearing ideas from Republicans on reforming the Affordable Care Act but that he would use his executive powers to defend its key elements.

Obama made his comments in a press conference called the day after an election day rout in which Republicans took control of the US Senate and expanded their majority in the House of Representatives.1
