New York physician is convicted of healthcare fraud linked to personal injury claims

A New York pediatrician has become the first doctor convicted in the largest ever medical fraud to target a no fault road crash insurance scheme. Tatyana Gabinskaya, 60, a former assistant professor of pediatrics at Mt Sinai College of Medicine, was convicted in a Brooklyn federal court of one count of healthcare fraud, one count of mail fraud, and two counts of conspiracy. She faces sentencing in January on charges that carry penalties of up to 20 years.

Gabinskaya is the 32nd defendant to be convicted in the case. Thirty one, including three physicians, have pleaded guilty to various charges.
