Vytenis Andriukaitis, the European Commissioner designate for health and food safety,1 has determined that “promotion, prevention and protection” are to be his guiding policy priorities for the next five years if he receives parliamentary approval for his new post.
Andriukaitis made the commitment during a three hour hearing on 30 September during which MEPs quizzed the qualified surgeon and former Lithuanian health minister on his personal and professional qualities and knowledge of the policies he will oversee as a commissioner.
