David Charles Herbert was a plastic surgeon who followed an unconventional career; he was a larger than life character with an enormous range of interests. A knowledgeable antique collector, creative gardener, competent amateur artist, poetry enthusiast, and speaker of several languages, he sponsored operatic and music festivals and was a generous and active member of his local community.
