Paediatric neurologist is suspended for poor monitoring of epilepsy patient who died

A consultant paediatric neurologist has been suspended for six months by a fitness to practise panel after he failed to ensure adequate monitoring of a patient with epilepsy who then died.

Jayaprakash Ayillath Gosalakkal was accused of a catalogue of clinical errors involving four patients at Leicester Royal Infirmary. All charges that related to the first three patients and alleged clinical misjudgment over long periods of treatment were found not proved, with no deficiencies identified in Gosalakkal’s care.
