Locum histopathologist is struck off for clinical errors and lying

A locum consultant histopathologist who committed a catalogue of clinical errors and lied to prospective employers about his previous job has been struck off by a panel of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

Ioannis Tosounidis, who qualified in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2001, worked as a locum in autumn 2011 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Colleagues at both hospitals became concerned that Tosounidis was misdiagnosing samples.
