India’s new health minister, Harsh Vardhan, has announced that the government’s top priority will be to provide health insurance coverage for everyone through a national policy. Vardhan took up the post of health minister on 27 May.
Vardhan said, “The Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana [RSBY; the national health insurance scheme] of the ministry of labour is working fine in some states but its reach is limited to BPL [below poverty line] families.
