Peter McMullin died on Good Friday 2014 from complications after a mitral valve repair. He had been active until his last illness, playing golf regularly and working an allotment, but the leaking valve had severely reduced his mobility. He had approached the operation with some misgivings, fully aware of the risks of such a procedure at his age, but felt they were worth taking.
