Two recent analyses have focused on the standard of the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test. The data linked PLAB performance with postgraduate outcomes in specialty training exams and annual competency reviews, and compared these with the achievements of British medical school graduates.1 2 Both found that those entering the workforce through the PLAB performed poorly, and that raising the pass mark may ameliorate this. …
