56 private organisations were granted access to NHS patient data last year

Around a third of the organisations that gained access to NHS patient data last year were from the private sector, a new register has shown.

The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) published a register1 of approved data releases on 4 April, describing it as part of a drive towards greater transparency and building public trust.
