A consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist who three times evacuated the womb of a woman who may have been carrying a viable pregnancy as a “favour” to a colleague may resume unrestricted practice after spending 18 months working under imposed conditions, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service has decided.
Mohamed Al-Samarraie’s fitness to practise was judged to be impaired by a tribunal service panel in 2012, after he admitted providing inappropriate care to “patient A” in three different pregnancies over a 15 month period from 2005 to 2007.
