The UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) has announced that 7114 applicants (96.6%) to the 2014 foundation programme have been allocated to a foundation school.

Just over 92% of applicants got into one of their top five schools, and 82% were allocated to one of their top two choices, the UKFPO said.

In January UKFPO said that it had received 293 more applications than the number of places available for the 2014 foundation programme.1 After the allocations there are now 235 applicants on the reserve list pending allocation over the coming months. The figure has fallen because of applicants withdrawing from the process, the UKFPO said

In 2013 the foundation programme was oversubscribed by 295 applications, and the last 33 applicants on the reserve list were awarded places by 8 July.2

Derek Gallen, the UKFPO’s national director, said, “I am delighted to announce that despite another year of oversubscription we are in a better position than this time last year. Over 96% of applicants have been placed in jobs today, with 82% allocated to one of their top two foundation school choices, which is a 4% increase from last year. I am also pleased that there has been a decrease in the reserve list this year.

“However, we acknowledge that there is still work to do over the coming months to support those on the reserve list and ensure they are allocated as soon as possible. The UKFPO and the foundation schools are working hard to make this process go smoothly. As in previous years, we will continue to improve the application process in response to feedback from students and other stakeholders.”
